First, Ashlyn had a great experience the last 2 weeks of June. She was involved in a community play where just 17 children put on a play. They did The 12 Dancing Princesses...that sounded like something Ashlyn would love. Ashlyn loved every rehearsal - 4 hours each day. The performances were pretty low key, but what a great experience for a young child. She had 4 lines and learned all about scripts, staging, projection and the rules of the theater.
Second, the 4th of July...always a fun holiday, but always one of the hottest! The girls all had red/white/blue outifts to wear (thank you Nana)...which they were so excited to wear. We had out parade spot all reserved and ready to go. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until Sabrina wouldn't eat her breakfast...she said her tummy hurt (never a good line to hear). She played by herself for a while and then was just laying on the floor watching TV. She stood up and I could hear the sound of "pre vomit"...I ran around the house grabbing the nearest garbage can and then grabbed her shoulder as she just made the trash can. We walked to the bathroom as this was happening and the rest made the toilet. Too much info, sorry!! She seemed to feel better, but a couple more trips to the bathroom made the decision...no parade for Sabrina :(
We still dressed them all up, Sabrina didn't want to stay in her pajamas. Nana stayed home with her during the parade (it was 100 degrees out so not a hard decision). Sabrina relaxed and got better while we were gone. The rest of us went to the parade with Grandpa and Chris (Scott's girlfriend). We sat next to the Gudim/Chandonnet/Barsness families like always and had a great time. The heat was pretty unbearable at times, but the kids handled it well. Kadence started feeling a little ill so I took her back to the car and had her sit in the air conditioning. She then said she had to go potty....real bad, right that moment. She held it in until Jim came to the car with Aubrie and we drove to the nearest gas station...way to go Kadence!!! Ashlyn went home with Chris and Grandpa.
After the parade we went back home, the girls went swimming, we had a cook out, dessert and then we chose not to attend the fireworks. Our girls were so tired and hot that we chose to stay in. Our neighborhood put on quite the display though, so the big girls got to experience fireworks from our driveway.
Next, Jim and I took a 10 year anniversary trip to Mexico. Our anniversary is not until July 27, but we get so busy around that time that the beginning of July worked better for us. Nana was gracious enough to move in and watch the girls for the 5 days we were gone. We went to El Dorado Casita Royale in the Riviera Maya area of Mexico (between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen). We wanted to relax and do nothing...so that is exactly what we did. We laid on the beach, by the pool, ate and drank our way around the resort, and then enjoyed our huge room with our own private infinity pool. Here are a few photos from our experience.
Lastly, Ashlyn just finished her first ever camp experience. She went to Camp Wapo in Wisconsin (although she kept asking when we were arriving in "Washington"...a little confused). We dropped her off on Friday night and picked her up Sunday afternoon. She was there with a couple of her church friends and a few familiar faces and she had no problem settling in. She practically pushed us out the cabin door on Friday. She had a blast and enjoyed shopping for snacks at the Canteen, swimming in the lake, and sleeping in a cabin with many other girls. Her camp counselor's name was Grace, which Ashlyn loved because that is her middle name. We picked her up on Sunday and she had tears in her eyes when she saw us...she really does love us :) She had some bumps, bruises and scrapes from falling and enjoying the woods...all part of the experience. She can't wait to go again next year.
Tomorrow is Relay for Life and we can't wait. We haven't gotten too involved this year, but Sabrina will walk in the Survivor Lap and we will stay for the beginning of the walk. One year we hope to start a team and walk all night...our kids would love it. Last year we spoke at the ceremony and Sabrina was the guest of honor, so she cut the ribbon to begin the Survivor Lap...great memories.
We also have 2 potty trained girls (at least 85% of the time) and we have made a couple more visits to different local zoos. We are enjoying our time together and can't believe we are half way done with July...school is right around the corner.
